As nearly half of the world’s population goes to the polls to determine the future of their countries in 2024, Hot Docs presents Year of the Vote. These compelling documentaries lay bare today’s challenges to democracy, while also presenting precious beacons of hope.
This year, democracies around the globe face several threats including rising populism, the systematic silencing of journalists, suppression of free speech, misinformation and election-meddling, unfettered capitalism and so much more. The precarious system of popular democracy is at risk.
Films from countries such as Taiwan, India, Pakistan, the United States, Mexico and Russia, alongside several films from this year's Hot Docs Festival, will underscore the precarious state of world democracy and urgently call for us citizens to do everything we can to protect it.
Stay tuned as we announce new films in this series through the year.
